The sweetest little 'betic that you ever did see...

A few days ago a friend of mine from Camp AZDA was walking along Mill Avenue in Tempe, AZ when she (we'll call her Christina to keep things appropriately anonymous) was drawn into a neat musical number being performed on the sidewalk.

Let me just say that such an experience should be familiar to all who have ever walked along Mill Avenue near ASU, as there is no shortage of musical numbers (some pleasant, some less so) on that particular block.

That day, Christina discovered 9 year old Lelea Fonua, a young smiling face that many from camp remember fondly, playing his ukulele & singing familiar melodies on the street in an effort to raise himself some tuition to attend diabetes camp.

Lelea, it's clear from your Youtube videos that you are a very talented 'betic! I am sure your ukulele and voice will help you earn your camp tuition. Once you earn your way, in addition to being able to attend the best week of any diabetic's year, you will have a fantastically inspiring story to tell.

And here is a note from Christina:

p.s. he will be performing live on Friday nights from 5pm to 6:30pm at Two Hippies Pizza, 5341 N. 7th Ave. Corner of Missouri and 7th Ave. ( his dad handed me this flyer stating all this info) I wouldn't be surprised if we see him on America's Got Talent! his dad is really trying to get him off the ground...hence Lelea now performs for private functions (bdays, festivals, etc) if you contact his dad at bfonua@gmail.com (this is all on the flyer he handed me) you can also youtube him...Lelea fonua (also on the flyer) lol

Hi Raraweez,
Lelea says "Thanks for posting me! I feel special and famous because people are posting me on the computer":). Lelea has only discovered his talent 4 months ago(thats when he started) and he loves it! Busking on the corner of the street was a small way of us fundraising for his diabetes camp. Lelea's performance even touched the heart of people walking past that I had a few people asking me how they could donate money towards Camp AZDA which is great news! (I gave them info).

Me and Lelea started talking about how he could help out other less fortunate children who have never been to camp AZDA before by sponsoring them in some way after he has fully paid off his own camp!

Regards
Ben Fonua (proud dad)
